Accenture interview questions and answers vary depending on whether you are applying for a consulting, strategy, or technology role. The most common question types include behavioral questions, case interviews, and the Potentia interview for Accenture Strategy candidates.
This guide covers every interview format you will face at Accenture, with 20+ sample answers, a breakdown of the full hiring process, and a step by step prep plan. Having coached over 500 candidates for consulting interviews at Bain and other top firms, I will walk you through exactly what Accenture interviewers look for and how to deliver standout answers.
But first, a quick heads up:
McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and other top firms accept less than 1% of applicants every year. If you want to triple your chances of landing interviews and 8x your chances of passing them, watch my free 40-minute training.
What Is the Accenture Consulting Interview Process?
The Accenture consulting interview process typically has two to three rounds, with each round containing one to three interviews. According to Glassdoor data from over 12,000 interview reports, the average candidate spends about 29 to 35 days in the process from application to offer, with roughly 68% rating the experience as positive.
Accenture is a global professional services firm with over 799,000 employees serving clients in more than 120 countries. The firm reported $64.1 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2024, making it one of the largest professional services companies in the world.
Within management consulting, Accenture is divided into three main groups: Strategy, Operations, and Digital. Accenture Strategy is the group most similar to McKinsey, BCG, and Bain in the type of work they do. Your interview format will depend on which group you are applying to.
Round |
Format |
Interviewers |
Content |
First Round |
Two 40-minute interviews |
Consultants or Managers |

If you are applying for a role in Accenture Strategy, one of your interviews will be a special format called the Potentia interview, which tests creative and strategic thinking. Most interviews are now conducted virtually through video conferencing, though some offices hold in person final rounds.
You will be interviewed by more senior people as you progress through the rounds. In the first round, you will typically be interviewed by consultants or managers. In the final round, you will be interviewed by managing directors and senior managing directors who will make the final hiring decision.
What Are the Most Common Accenture Behavioral Interview Questions?
Accenture behavioral interview questions make up about 25% to 50% of your total interview time, depending on the round. According to Accenture’s own recruiting guidance, interviewers evaluate six specific qualities: collaboration, leadership, problem solving, learning agility, business acumen, and emotional resilience.
The best way to answer behavioral questions is the STAR method: describe the Situation, Task, Action you took, and the Result you achieved. Keep your initial answer to 60 to 90 seconds, then be ready for follow up questions. For a complete guide, check out our article on consulting behavioral interview questions.
Below are the ten most common Accenture behavioral interview questions with sample answer strategies.
How Do You Answer "Why Accenture?"
This is one of the most important questions in any Accenture interview. You need at least three specific, personal reasons. Generic answers like “it’s a big company” will not set you apart.
Strong reasons to mention include:
- Accenture provides both strategy and implementation, so you can see the full impact of your recommendations on a client’s business. This is a genuine differentiator from firms that only do strategy work.
- Accenture has a massive global presence with operations in over 120 countries, giving you exposure to diverse industries and cross border projects early in your career.
- The people you have met from Accenture during the recruiting process. Personal connections are always the most compelling reason because they cannot be faked.
- Accenture invests heavily in technology and innovation, including significant work in AI, cloud, and digital transformation. If technology excites you, this is a natural fit.
Whichever reasons you choose, make them personal. Explain why each reason matters to you specifically, not just why it sounds impressive on paper.
How Do You Answer "Why Consulting?"
Have three clear reasons prepared. The strongest answers connect consulting to your past experiences and future goals rather than listing generic benefits.
Common strong answers include: the steep learning curve and fast career growth, the variety of industries and problems you get to work on, and the level of impact you can make by helping large companies solve their toughest challenges. Tie at least one reason to a specific experience. For example: “In my previous role, I helped one department solve a supply chain issue. That project made me realize I wanted to do this kind of problem solving full time, across many different companies.”
How Do You Answer "Walk Me Through Your Resume"?
Use the Present, Past, Future structure. Start with your current role and key accomplishments. Then briefly mention one or two prior experiences that built relevant skills. End by explaining why consulting at Accenture is the logical next step.
Keep your answer to 90 seconds. Emphasize your most impressive and unique accomplishments rather than listing every job. Interviewers do not want to hear you read your resume back to them. They want the story behind it.
How Do You Answer "Tell Me About a Time You Led a Team"?
Choose an example where you directly influenced outcomes, even if you were not the formal leader. Accenture values people who take initiative regardless of title.
Structure your answer using STAR. Describe the situation and your specific role. Explain the challenge or goal. Detail the actions you personally took to lead the team. Quantify the result whenever possible. For example: “I organized a cross functional working group of six people to address a 15% decline in customer satisfaction scores. I created the project plan, assigned responsibilities based on each person’s strengths, and facilitated weekly check ins. Within two months, we identified three root causes and implemented fixes that brought satisfaction scores back up by 12 percentage points.”
How Do You Answer "Tell Me About a Time You Faced Conflict"?
Accenture interviewers want to see that you handle conflict constructively. Focus on the steps you took to understand the other person’s perspective, find common ground, and resolve the disagreement.
Never badmouth the other person. Frame the conflict as a professional disagreement about approach or priorities, not a personality clash. End with what you learned and how the relationship improved. According to a Glassdoor analysis of Accenture interviews, conflict resolution questions appear in roughly 40% of behavioral rounds.
How Do You Answer "Tell Me About a Time You Failed"?
Choose a real failure, not a disguised success. Accenture values self awareness and growth over perfection. The best answers follow this structure: describe what happened, own the mistake honestly, explain what you learned, and show how you applied that lesson going forward.
For example: “I once presented a market analysis to a client without first validating my assumptions with their team. My recommendations missed the mark because I was solving for the wrong constraints. After that experience, I now always run a brief discovery session with stakeholders before building any analysis. That single habit has made my work dramatically more relevant and actionable.”
How Do You Answer "What Is Your Greatest Strength?"
Pick a strength that directly relates to consulting work at Accenture. Strong options include structured problem solving, the ability to learn new industries quickly, or clear communication that simplifies complex topics for clients.
Back up your answer with a specific example. Do not just say “I’m a good communicator.” Say: “My greatest strength is translating technical analysis into clear recommendations that non technical stakeholders can act on. For example, at my previous company, I turned a 40 page data report into a 3 slide executive summary that helped the CEO approve a $2 million investment in 15 minutes.”
How Do You Answer "What Questions Do You Have for Me?"
Always ask at least two thoughtful questions. According to Accenture’s own interview tips, asking questions demonstrates genuine interest and preparation. Avoid asking anything you could easily find on the website.
Strong questions to ask Accenture interviewers include:
- What has been your favorite project at Accenture, and what made it stand out?
- How does the team I would be joining typically collaborate with Accenture’s technology practice?
- What does success look like in this role during the first six months?
- What is one thing you wish you had known before joining Accenture?
The goal is to get the interviewer talking about their personal experience. The more engaged they are, the more positive their impression of you will be.

What Accenture Case Interview Questions Should You Expect?
Accenture case interviews are candidate led, 30 to 60 minute business problem solving exercises. Unlike McKinsey interviews, which are more interviewer driven, Accenture expects you to take the lead in structuring your approach and driving the case forward. For a detailed breakdown of case interview strategies, check out our guide on case interview frameworks.
Accenture categorizes its case interviews into three types. Understanding each type will help you recognize what is being tested and adapt your approach accordingly.
Case Type |
What You Receive |
What It Tests |
Great Unknown |
Very little background (1 to 2 sentences) |
Ability to ask the right questions and build a framework from ambiguity |
Parade of Facts |
Large amount of details, some unnecessary |
Ability to synthesize information and identify key issues |
Back of the Envelope |
A clear question with very little data |
Structured estimation and comfort with numbers |
Here are examples of actual Accenture case interview questions reported by candidates:
- A consumer electronics company is looking to introduce a new smartwatch. How should they launch this product?
- A pharmaceutical company is considering discontinuing a drug from its portfolio. What are the financial implications?
- Estimate the total number of dry cleaners in Philadelphia.
- A major furniture retailer has experienced declining profits for four quarters but has seen 25% growth in sales. Why are profits declining?
- A commercial bank is deciding whether to expand or consolidate its branch network. How should they make this decision?
According to Accenture’s own case interview workbook, your performance is evaluated on your process, not on finding the correct answer. Interviewers assess five qualities: structured thinking, analytical problem solving, business acumen, communication skills, and cultural fit.

How Do You Solve an Accenture Case Interview Step by Step?
Accenture recommends a six step approach in its official case interview workbook. In my experience coaching candidates, this framework is the most effective way to structure your thinking during a case.
Step 1: Listen to the case. Take notes on the context, company, and objective. Do not interrupt the interviewer.
Step 2: Clarify the problem. Ask clarifying questions and confirm the objective. Solving the wrong problem is the fastest way to fail.
Step 3: Decompose the problem. Break it down into a structured framework with three to four major categories. For a full guide, check out our article on case interview frameworks.
Step 4: State your hypothesis. Develop an educated guess about the answer based on the information you have. This keeps your analysis focused and efficient.
Step 5: Test your hypothesis. Answer questions and perform analyses to validate or refine your thinking. Be flexible enough to pivot if the data does not support your initial hypothesis.
Step 6: Summarize your findings. Present a clear recommendation with two to three supporting reasons and potential next steps. According to Accenture interviewers, candidates who deliver a crisp, structured recommendation score significantly higher than those who trail off at the end.

What Is the Accenture Potentia Interview?
The Accenture Potentia interview is a 1 hour interview given exclusively to candidates applying for Accenture Strategy roles. It is a creative thinking exercise, not a traditional case interview. There is no math or data analysis involved.
Here is the structure: you will be given a short paragraph about a broad business or societal topic with a problem statement. Past topics have included intellectual property on the internet, data privacy in the age of AI, and transitioning a government to a cashless society. You get 5 minutes to prepare, then have a 45 to 60 minute discussion with the interviewer.
There is no right or wrong answer. The interviewer is assessing the structure of your thinking and your creativity. Here are five tips to succeed:
- Use a framework. Even though creativity is being tested, organize your ideas into three to five logical categories. This shows you can be both creative and structured.
- Brainstorm broadly. Generate at least three ideas in each category. Thoroughness demonstrates intellectual rigor.
- Mix practical and ambitious ideas. Show creativity with bold suggestions, but also demonstrate business judgment with realistic ones.
- Draw on your prior experience. Taking a solution from one industry and applying it to another is a powerful way to show creative thinking.
- Make it a conversation. The Potentia interview is a two way dialogue. Listen to the interviewer’s questions and respond thoughtfully rather than treating it as a presentation.
According to Glassdoor data, Strategy Consultant candidates rate the Potentia interview at a 3.3 out of 5 difficulty level. It is challenging but very manageable with targeted preparation.
What Are the Best Tips for Passing Accenture Interviews?
Below are six tips that will help you stand out in Accenture interviews. These are based on patterns I have seen from hundreds of successful candidates and from Accenture’s own recruiting guidance.
Tip 1: Research Accenture’s Core Values and Recent Work
Accenture’s recruiters specifically recommend researching the “four Ps” before your interview: Products, Press Releases, Personnel, and Position. Go beyond the About Us page. Read recent press releases about major client wins, technology partnerships, or sustainability commitments. Look up your interviewer on LinkedIn to find common ground.
Candidates who reference specific Accenture initiatives stand out immediately. For example, mentioning Accenture’s significant investments in generative AI or their Net Zero commitments shows genuine interest.
Tip 2: Prepare 8 to 10 STAR Stories in Advance
Accenture interviewers dig deep with follow up questions. They will ask clarifying questions to verify your specific role and contributions. Your stories need to be substantial enough to hold up under this scrutiny.
Write out 8 to 10 different situations that demonstrate collaboration, leadership, problem solving, learning agility, and resilience. Make sure each story clearly shows what you personally did, not what the team did collectively. Include quantifiable results whenever possible.
Tip 3: Practice Case Interviews with a Partner
Solo preparation is useful for learning frameworks and practicing math, but you need live practice with another person to simulate the real experience. After each 30 to 40 minute case, spend at least 15 to 20 minutes giving and receiving feedback. For tips on solo practice, see our guide on practicing case interviews by yourself.
Tip 4: Use the 50/50 Communication Rule
According to Accenture’s own recruiting team, verbal communication during interviews should be roughly 50/50 between you and the interviewer. If you are doing significantly more than 50% of the talking, you are likely rambling. If significantly less, you are not providing enough substance.
Tip 5: Ask Thoughtful Questions at the End
Every Accenture recruiter emphasizes the importance of asking intelligent questions. Do not waste this opportunity with generic questions you could ask at any company. Ask about specific challenges the team faces, how success is measured in the role, or how the interviewer’s career has evolved at Accenture.
Tip 6: Send a Strategic Follow Up
Accenture recruiters specifically recommend following up after your interview. Within 24 hours, send a concise email referencing specific topics from your conversation, reiterating your interest in the role, and briefly explaining how you will add value. This is not just courtesy. It reinforces your key selling points when the hiring decision is being made.
How Should You Prepare for Accenture Interviews?

Frequently Asked Questions
How Hard Are Accenture Interviews Compared to MBB?
Accenture consulting interviews are generally considered less difficult than McKinsey, BCG, and Bain interviews. According to Glassdoor data, Accenture interviews receive a difficulty rating of 2.82 out of 5, compared to McKinsey’s 3.6 out of 5. The quantitative portions tend to be more straightforward, and the cases are often based on real projects rather than highly abstract scenarios. That said, you still need thorough preparation to pass.
How Long Does the Accenture Hiring Process Take?
According to Glassdoor data from over 12,000 interview reports, the average Accenture hiring process takes about 29 days from application to offer. For Management Consultant roles specifically, the average is about 35 days. This can vary depending on the office, role level, and time of year.
Does Accenture Use Group Interviews?
Accenture rarely uses group case interviews for experienced hires. Almost all consulting interviews are one on one. However, graduate hires may participate in a group assessment day that includes team activities, case study discussions, and individual interviews. The group exercises evaluate how you collaborate, contribute ideas, and handle differing opinions.
What Should You Wear to an Accenture Interview?
Accenture’s own recruiting team advises dressing up rather than down. For in person interviews, business professional attire is the safest choice. For virtual interviews, dress professionally from at least the waist up and check your background and lighting before the call. It is always better to be slightly overdressed than underdressed.
Can You Use a Calculator in an Accenture Case Interview?
No. Like most consulting firms, Accenture does not allow calculators during case interviews. You are expected to perform all calculations by hand using pen and paper. Practice mental math regularly so you can work through numbers smoothly and accurately during the interview.
What Is the Accenture Strategy Consultant Salary?
According to Glassdoor data, the average Accenture Strategy Analyst earns about $121,000 per year in the U.S., while Strategy Consultants average about $151,000. Senior Strategy Consultants can earn $173,000 or more. These figures include base salary only and do not include bonuses, which can add 10% to 20% on top of base pay.
