Bridge to BCG: How to Apply and Get Accepted (2026)
Author: Taylor Warfield, Former Bain Manager and interviewer
Last Updated: March 31, 2026

Bridge to BCG is a two-day workshop that gives PhDs, JDs, MDs, and other advanced degree candidates a firsthand look at BCG consulting. Participants solve a real business case alongside BCG consultants and, upon completing the program, receive an invitation to final round interviews for a full-time consulting role.
In my experience coaching hundreds of advanced degree candidates, Bridge to BCG is one of the highest-value recruiting programs available. According to BCG, the program is both a workshop and a full-time job application rolled into one. This guide covers everything you need to apply successfully and get accepted.
But first, a quick heads up:
McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and other top firms accept less than 1% of applicants every year. If you want to triple your chances of landing interviews and 8x your chances of passing them, watch my free 40-minute training.
What Changed in 2026?
BCG made several notable updates to the Bridge to BCG program for 2026. The application deadline was March 23, 2026, and the workshop will take place in person from May 19 to 20 at BCG’s Boston and Chicago offices.
Here are the key changes from previous years:
- New assessment component: BCG now requires applicants to complete a Consulting Career Assessment (CCA), an SHL-powered evaluation that must be finished within 24 hours of receiving the invitation.
- Updated interview format: Finalists now complete a 45-minute live case interview via Zoom plus a separate online case exercise. This replaces the previous 30-minute behavioral interview format.
- In-person only: The 2026 program is hosted exclusively in person at BCG’s Boston and Chicago offices. The virtual option from previous years has been removed.
- Final round interview guarantee: Bridge participants now receive an explicit invitation to final round interviews for a full-time Consultant role, making the program an even more direct path to a BCG offer.
- Expanded eligibility language: BCG updated eligibility to include equivalent degrees such as EdD, PsyD, ScD, DBA, DO, MBBS, PharmD, and LLB with licensure.
What Is the Bridge to BCG Program?
Bridge to BCG is a selective, two-day immersive workshop designed to help advanced degree students experience what it is actually like to work on a BCG case team. Over two days, participants solve a mini-business case with a team of 5 to 6 other participants, managed by a real BCG project leader.
This includes working sessions in team rooms, analyzing data, building recommendations, and presenting results to a mock steering committee of clients. According to BCG, the experience closely mirrors an actual consulting engagement.
As a Bridge to BCG participant, you will:
- Solve a case in a realistic case team simulation alongside other participants and BCG consultants
- Learn about BCG’s culture and life as a consultant from senior BCG leaders
- Network with BCG consultants and fellow Bridge participants through social events
- Receive an invitation to final round interviews for a full-time Consultant role at one of BCG’s U.S. or Canadian offices
If selected for the in-person program, you will be invited to the BCG office location in Boston or Chicago. BCG covers round-trip transportation and one night of hotel for out-of-town guests. Meals and other reasonable expenses are also covered.
For additional questions about the program, you can email [email protected].
Is Bridge to BCG the Same as Bridge to Consulting?
No. BCG runs two programs with similar names, but they target completely different audiences. Bridge to BCG is the advanced degree program for PhDs, JDs, MDs, and postdocs. The BCG Bridge to Consulting Workshop is a separate program for undergraduate freshmen and sophomores from underrepresented minority backgrounds.
The two programs differ in eligibility, format, duration, and recruiting outcomes. If you hold an advanced degree or are in a doctoral program, the Bridge to BCG program is the one you want.
Who Is Eligible for the Bridge to BCG Program?
Bridge to BCG is open to advanced degree candidates based in the United States or Canada who are looking to start full-time consulting careers. According to BCG, the program is intentionally designed for individuals just beginning to explore a career in consulting.
What Degrees Qualify for Bridge to BCG?
BCG accepts candidates from the following degree programs and pathways:
- PhD or equivalent (e.g., EdD, PsyD, ScD/DSc, DBA)
- MD or equivalent (e.g., DO, MBBS, PharmD)
- JD or equivalent (e.g., LLB with licensure to practice)
- Postdoctoral researchers
- Medical trainees (e.g., residents, interns, fellows)
- Practicing physicians
If you hold or are pursuing multiple advanced degrees, you are still eligible to apply. BCG looks for candidates with a history of achievement and leadership, strong communication skills, and a passion for problem solving.
Are MBA Candidates Eligible?
No. Candidates who are currently pursuing or already possess an MBA degree are not eligible for Bridge to BCG. The program is specifically designed for applicants with little to no business background. MBA candidates should look into BCG’s other recruiting programs, such as BCG Advance or the Summer Consultant Internship.
Can International Candidates Apply?
Bridge to BCG is designed for U.S. and Canadian offices only. If you select an office outside of the U.S. and Canada on your application, it will not be considered for the program. However, BCG encourages international candidates to register for BCG Accelerate, a virtual info series that introduces advanced degree candidates to consulting at BCG.
What Is the Bridge to BCG Application Deadline?
The Bridge to BCG application deadline is typically in March each year. For 2026, the deadline was March 23. Applicants can expect an update on their application status by mid-April, and finalists are invited to interview in late April.
Here is the typical Bridge to BCG timeline:

If you are not accepted into the Bridge to BCG program, you are still eligible to apply to BCG’s full-time consulting positions. Your Bridge application will not negatively impact your chances of receiving an interview for a full-time role.
Make sure to check out our list of all BCG application deadlines for internships, full-time roles, and other programs.
How Does the Bridge to BCG Application Work?
The Bridge to BCG application includes up to three components. Applications that do not include all required components will be considered incomplete. Having coached hundreds of candidates through this process, I can tell you that attention to detail here matters.
What Goes Into the Full-Time Consulting Application?
The Bridge to BCG application is the same as the full-time consulting application. U.S. candidates apply through the U.S. application portal, Canadian candidates apply through the Canada portal, and candidates interested in both countries should apply to both.
The major sections of the application are:
- Profile: Basic information including your name, email address, and home address.
- Office preferences: Rank up to three BCG office locations in order of preference with a weighting that totals 100%. Your top choice office is likely the only one that will be heavily considered.
- Education: School name, degree, start and end dates, test scores, and notable scholarships.
- Employment: Full-time work experience only. Do not include internships, but postdoctoral work can be counted.
- Attachments: Upload your resume and transcript. You can also select BCG industry practices and capability topics of interest. A cover letter is optional but recommended for borderline candidates.
- Personal details: Language proficiency, phone number, and permanent address.
If you are a borderline candidate, submitting a well-written BCG cover letter can make the difference between getting an interview and getting rejected. Our guide on writing a strong consulting cover letter walks you through exactly how to do this.
What Is the BCG Consulting Career Assessment (CCA)?
The CCA is a newer component of the Bridge to BCG application. According to BCG, the assessment helps them learn more about you beyond what’s reflected in your resume and provides multi-dimensional insight into your potential for success at the firm.
After submitting the full-time application, you will receive an email from [email protected] with instructions and timing. You will have 24 hours to complete the assessment once you receive the invitation, so make sure to add that email address to your safe sender list.
The CCA is required for all applicants. If you apply to the Canada application, the CCA is the only additional component beyond the application itself.
What Is the Video Cover Letter?
U.S. applicants will also complete a video cover letter. You will receive an email invitation to record your responses shortly after the application deadline.
The video cover letter presents a few questions on screen, and you respond to each one at a time through a recorded video. The questions are not case interviews. Instead, they ask about experiences you’ve had, goals you are pursuing, and your motivation for consulting.
You will need internet access and a webcam on either your computer or smartphone. The entire process should take no more than 45 minutes. You can pause between questions and return later, but all responses must be completed by the designated due date.
What Is the Bridge to BCG Interview Process?
After submitting the Bridge to BCG application, finalists will be invited to interview in late April. The interview consists of two components: a 45-minute live case interview via Zoom and a separate online case exercise.
What Happens in the 45-Minute Live Case Interview?
The live case interview is conducted with a BCG consultant over Zoom. A case interview is a 20 to 45-minute exercise where you are placed in a hypothetical business situation and asked to develop a recommendation to solve a business problem.
During the live case, you will be expected to structure a framework, work through quantitative and qualitative questions, and deliver a recommendation. Based on Glassdoor data, Bridge to BCG applicants have rated the interview difficulty at 3 out of 5 and described the experience as 86% positive.
Expect the interview to also include some behavioral and motivational questions. The interviewer wants to assess both your problem-solving ability and your fit with BCG’s culture.
What Is the Online Case Exercise?
In addition to the live case, you will complete a BCG online case interview. This is an interactive, chat-based assessment where you are given a series of questions simulating a real case interview.
The online case typically includes four types of questions:
- Structuring questions: Present a scenario and ask you to identify the most helpful approach or information to gather.
- Quantitative questions: Involve calculations and analysis, often with tables, charts, or graphs.
- Critical thinking questions: Test your ability to analyze scenarios, apply logic, and make informed judgments.
- Business intuition questions: Evaluate your knowledge of basic business principles and your ability to make strategic decisions.
What Happens During the Bridge to BCG Workshop?
The Bridge to BCG workshop is a two-day, in-person event that closely mirrors a real BCG consulting engagement. In 2026, the workshop takes place May 19 to 20 at BCG’s Boston and Chicago offices.
During the workshop, you will be placed on a small team of 5 to 6 participants led by a real BCG project leader. Together, you will work through a business case from start to finish. This includes analyzing data in team rooms, developing recommendations, and presenting your findings to a mock steering committee of clients.
Beyond the case simulation, the workshop includes sessions with senior BCG leaders about the firm’s culture and what life as a consultant actually looks like. There are also networking events and social activities designed to help you connect with consultants and fellow participants.
The key takeaway: this is not a passive information session. Based on what participants have reported, the two days feel like actual consulting work. BCG is evaluating how you think, collaborate, and communicate under realistic conditions.
How Does Bridge to BCG Compare to McKinsey Insight and Bain ADvantage?
All three MBB firms run spring programs for advanced degree candidates. Each program has a similar goal of introducing PhDs, MDs, JDs, and postdocs to management consulting. However, they differ in duration, format, and outcomes.

McKinsey Insight |
Bain ADvantage |

Bain ADvantage is the most intensive of the three, placing participants on a real case team for four days. McKinsey Insight and Bridge to BCG are shorter but still provide meaningful exposure to consulting and a direct path into the interview process.
In my experience, candidates should apply to all three programs if eligible. Each operates on a slightly different timeline, and applying to one does not disqualify you from the others.
What Is BCG Accelerate and How Does It Relate to Bridge?
BCG Accelerate is a virtual info series that runs from mid-February to mid-March each year. It introduces advanced degree candidates to BCG and the consulting profession through live sessions, recorded content, and networking opportunities.
Accelerate is not a substitute for Bridge to BCG. It does not provide the same recruiting benefits, such as a guaranteed final round interview. However, it serves two important purposes.
First, it is a great fallback if you are not selected for Bridge to BCG. You can still learn about BCG, build connections, and prepare for BCG’s full-time application cycle later in the year.
Second, BCG recommends Accelerate as interview preparation for Bridge finalists. The program includes resources and sessions on the case interview format that can help you perform better during the Bridge interview process.
Tips for Getting Accepted to the Bridge to BCG Program
How Should You Prepare Your Consulting Resume?
Your consulting resume is the single most important component that determines whether you receive an interview. BCG says they look for candidates who have illustrated a history of achievement and leadership inside and outside the classroom.
Dedicate at least a few days perfecting your resume and getting feedback from peers, your school’s career center, or consultants you know. Follow these key tips:
- Keep your resume to one page. If it is longer, make it more concise.
- Start every bullet with a past-tense action verb to show completed accomplishments.
- Include a number or metric in every bullet to quantify your impact.
- Balance quantitative accomplishments (e.g., analyzing data) with qualitative ones (e.g., leading a team).
- Avoid technical jargon, unfamiliar acronyms, and buzzwords that a non-specialist would not understand.
- Highlight experiences beyond academia. BCG wants to see that you have looked outside your academic field.

How Can You Stand Out in the Video Cover Letter?
The video cover letter is your chance to add a personal dimension to your application. In my experience, the candidates who stand out are the ones who are specific, authentic, and clearly passionate about consulting.
Be specific about why you want to transition from your academic field into consulting. Generic answers about wanting to “solve business problems” will not differentiate you. Instead, connect your specific research or clinical experience to the type of problem-solving consultants do.
Prepare and practice your responses beforehand, but do not sound scripted. You can pause between questions if needed. Speak naturally and maintain eye contact with the camera.
How Should You Prepare for the CCA Assessment?
The CCA is delivered by SHL and evaluates cognitive and behavioral traits. While BCG does not publish the exact format, SHL assessments typically include situational judgment questions, personality-based items, and cognitive reasoning exercises.
The most important thing to know is timing. You only have 24 hours from the moment you receive the invitation to complete the assessment. Set aside a distraction-free block of time, and make sure you are checking your email (including spam folders) regularly after you submit your application.
How Should You Network Before Applying?
Networking is one of the most underrated strategies for getting accepted to Bridge to BCG. Advanced degree candidates who become a “known quantity” at BCG before applying have a meaningful edge over those who submit a blind application.
Start by identifying BCG consultants who are former advanced degree candidates themselves. Many firms have internal affinity groups for PhDs, MDs, and JDs. Reach out through LinkedIn, campus events, or BCG’s own Accelerate info sessions.
Your goal is not just an informational interview. It is to have a substantive conversation where you demonstrate that you understand the consulting pivot and have started preparing for the case method. Having 2 to 3 specific people who can vouch for your potential makes a real difference.
How Should You Prepare for the Case Interview?
Case interviews are the most challenging part of the Bridge to BCG process, and they require significant practice. Unlike behavioral questions, it is extremely unlikely you will perform well without having practiced at least 5 to 20 cases beforehand. If you want to learn case interviews quickly, my case interview course walks you through proven strategies in as little as 7 days.
Focus your preparation on these four areas:
- Structuring frameworks: Practice creating tailored, MECE frameworks for different business problems rather than memorizing generic ones.
- Quantitative problem solving: Work on mental math, market sizing, and profitability calculations until you can perform them quickly and accurately.
- Qualitative analysis: Practice brainstorming questions and business judgment questions with clear, structured answers.
- Delivering recommendations: End every practice case with a clear recommendation supported by 2 to 3 reasons and potential next steps.
How Should You Answer “Why BCG?” and “Why Consulting?”
Expect to answer both why consulting and why BCG at some point during your Bridge to BCG interview. These questions evaluate whether you genuinely understand what consultants do and whether you have done your research on BCG specifically.
For “Why consulting?”, strong reasons include wanting to solve diverse business problems across industries, building a toolkit of hard and soft skills quickly, and making a tangible impact on how companies operate.
For “Why BCG?”, avoid generic answers. Reference specific things about BCG that resonate with you, such as their regional staffing model, their culture of intellectual challenge and collaboration, their commitment to professional development, or their approach to innovation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bridge to BCG the Same as Bridge to Consulting?
No. Bridge to BCG is for advanced degree candidates (PhDs, JDs, MDs, postdocs) and leads to a final round interview for a full-time Consultant role. The BCG Bridge to Consulting Workshop is a separate two-day program for undergraduate freshmen and sophomores from underrepresented minority backgrounds.
Does Applying to Bridge to BCG Hurt My Chances for Full-Time?
No. According to BCG, your Bridge application will not hinder your chances of receiving an invitation to interview for full-time work. If you are not selected for Bridge, BCG encourages you to apply to their full-time application deadlines for your class year.
Do I Need to Choose Boston or Chicago as My Office Preference?
No. The office preferences on the application reflect where you want to live and work full-time, not where the workshop takes place. Even though the 2026 workshop is hosted in Boston and Chicago, the program is open to candidates interested in any U.S. or Canadian BCG office.
How Competitive Is Bridge to BCG?
Bridge to BCG is highly competitive. BCG does not publish exact acceptance rates, but the program receives hundreds of applications from top advanced degree candidates across the U.S. and Canada. Landing a full-time consulting role at BCG has an overall acceptance rate of roughly 1%, according to publicly available data.
What If I Am Not Interview-Ready Yet?
BCG recommends applying anyway. The program is intentionally designed for individuals just beginning to explore a career in consulting, and BCG provides resources to help you prepare. If you are not selected, applying now will not negatively impact your future applications.
Can I Apply to Bridge to BCG, McKinsey Insight, and Bain ADvantage at the Same Time?
Yes. The three programs have separate applications and slightly different timelines. There is no restriction against applying to all three. In fact, doing so is a smart strategy because it maximizes your chances of getting into at least one MBB bridge program.
