Women at Bain: Programs, Culture & Careers (2026)

Women at Bain refers to both the firm's global Women at Bain network and the wider set of programs Bain uses to recruit, support, and promote women. Bain has doubled the number of women on its leadership team in the past four years. This guide covers every program, support system, and application step you should know.
But first, a quick heads up:
McKinsey, BCG, Bain, and other top firms accept less than 1% of applicants every year. If you want to triple your chances of landing interviews and 8x your chances of passing them, watch my free 40-minute training.
What Is the Women at Bain Network?
The Women at Bain network, often shortened to WAB, is a global community for all Bain professionals who connect around women's experiences, including women and non-binary individuals. Its goal is to build relationships, create a sense of belonging, and prepare members for leadership.
Bain started its earliest affinity groups informally more than 30 years ago. WAB has since grown into a structured global community with local chapters in nearly every office.
Members get three things from WAB:
- A network of peers and mentors who support your career inside the firm
- Regional Women at Bain leadership summits that bring members together across offices
- Women's Day and Women's History Month events, plus external speaker and alumni panels
- Local happy hours, dinners, and experience-sharing sessions run by each office
Membership in WAB is part of why Bain culture earns recognition as a strong place for women to build a long career.
In my experience interviewing and managing at Bain, the affinity network is not a box-ticking exercise. New joiners get paired with people who genuinely help them settle in and grow.
Why Does Bain Invest in Women?
Bain invests in women because consulting still loses female talent as roles get more senior, and the firm wants to keep its strongest people. Across the industry, women make up close to half of junior consultants but only about a quarter of partners.
According to 2026 consulting industry data, women represent roughly 44% of the junior consultant workforce globally but only about 25% of partners at major firms. McKinsey's Women in the Workplace 2025 study, the largest of its kind, found women hold 42% of manager roles and 39% of senior manager or director roles before representation drops further at the top.
Career Level |
Women's Representation (Industry-Wide) |
Entry and junior consultant |
About 44% |
Manager |
About 42% |
Senior manager or director |
About 39% |
Partner |
About 25% |
These figures are industry-wide, since Bain does not publish exact level-by-level numbers. The pattern is the same everywhere. Representation is healthy at entry and thins out toward the top.
These patterns are not unique to Bain, and they shape how women in consulting are recruited and retained across every firm.
Bain has responded by doubling the number of women on its leadership team over the past four years. Its women's initiatives sit alongside the firm's broader diversity programs aimed at other underrepresented groups.
What Programs Does Bain Offer for Women?

What Is the Bain CREW Program?
Bain CREW, short for Connecting and Resourcing Empowered Women, is a 1.5-day leadership summit for women in their sophomore year of a four-year undergraduate program in the US or Canada. Participants hear from women leaders, join workshops, and can interview for an internship.
The summit is hosted across 15 North American offices, and you are placed at the office nearest your university. Applications usually open in mid-October and close in early December.
CREW is competitive. Bain notes that only about 2 to 3% of applicants from target schools receive internship offers, so getting in front of recruiters early through Bain CREW is a real advantage.
Standout CREW participants are invited to interview for the Bain internship the following summer, which is the main pipeline into a full-time offer.
What Is the Lead to Inspire Masterclass and Fellowship?
The Lead to Inspire Masterclass is Bain's virtual program for women in Europe and the Middle East who are curious about consulting. It pairs each participant with a Bain mentor and offers training, interview prep, and a community of peers.
It is open to bachelor's and master's students graduating in 2026 or 2027 who identify as women. Standout participants are invited to interview for a consulting role at Bain.
Bain also runs a Lead to Inspire Fellowship as a longer mentorship track in the same regions. Both programs are designed to introduce women to consulting before formal recruiting begins.
What Other Women's Programs and Scholarships Does Bain Offer?
Beyond CREW and Lead to Inspire, Bain offers region-specific scholarships and events for women. These include the True North Scholarship for Women and the Future Women at Bain program in select European markets.
- True North Scholarship for Women: financial support plus mentorship, offered in Australia and India
- Future Women at Bain: an introductory program for women in select European offices
- Women's leadership summits: regional gatherings for women already at the firm
- Local WAB events: ongoing networking run by each office's chapter
Program names and eligibility change year to year, so always check Bain's careers site for current deadlines before you apply.
How Does Bain Support Women's Careers Once They Join?
Once women join Bain, support continues through formal sponsorship, mentorship, flexible career paths, and family benefits. The firm's goal is to keep women progressing toward senior and partner roles, not just to hire them.
How Does Sponsorship and Mentorship Work at Bain?
Every woman at Bain is given a network of formal and informal mentors, and senior women have access to a formal sponsorship program. Bain draws this distinction on purpose, because a sponsor actively advocates for your promotion while a mentor mainly advises.
Having coached hundreds of candidates, I tell women that sponsorship is what moves careers at the senior levels. A mentor helps you prepare, but a sponsor argues for you in the room when you are not there.
What Flexibility and Benefits Does Bain Offer?
Bain offers flexible career path options for people balancing intense work with caregiving or other commitments. These include adjusted roles, flexible arrangements within an existing role, and parental support.
Bain's research shows women more often carry primary caregiver roles, so the firm built flexibility for both men and women rather than only women. This matters because flexibility that everyone uses carries less career stigma.
What Is the Global Women's Leadership Council?
The Global Women's Leadership Council, or GWLC, is the firm-wide body that sets Bain's strategy for growing and retaining women leaders. It coordinates global efforts while local WAB chapters handle office-level activities.
GWLC is led by a senior partner and drives Bain's gender parity research. That research found women are most motivated to pursue top jobs when they feel empowered by influence and impact, not only pay.
How Do You Apply to Bain's Women's Programs?
You apply to Bain's women's programs through the Bain careers site, usually with a resume, short answers, and sometimes a recorded video interview. Each program has its own deadline, so apply as early as you can in the recruiting cycle.
- Find the program that matches your year and region on Bain's careers site
- Prepare a strong resume that highlights leadership, problem-solving, and results
- Submit your application and office preferences before the deadline
- Complete any recorded video or behavioral interview if required
- Attend the program and treat every interaction as part of the evaluation
A strong Bain resume is the single biggest factor in getting selected, since most applicants are screened out before any interview.
If you want expert eyes on yours, my Resume Review and Editing service gives unlimited revisions with a 24-hour turnaround.
How Should Women Prepare for Bain Interviews?
Women preparing for Bain interviews should prepare exactly as any strong candidate would, with equal focus on the case and the behavioral interview. There is no separate or easier track. The programs open the door, but you still pass the same interviews.
A Bain case interview tests structured thinking, math, and business judgment across several rounds. The fastest way to improve is timed practice with real cases and honest feedback.
If you want to learn case interviews quickly, my case interview course walks you through proven strategies in as little as 7 days.
Bain's behavioral round now follows a structured format with scripted Bain behavioral questions across several dimensions. Practice telling clear, specific stories using the STAR method.
My fit interview course covers 98% of the behavioral questions Bain asks.
What Are the Best Tips for Women Recruiting at Bain?
Here are the tips I give women recruiting at Bain, based on years of interviewing and coaching candidates.
Tip #1: Apply to the early program that fits your year. CREW is for sophomores in North America, while Lead to Inspire is for graduating students in Europe and the Middle East. Getting in early puts you in front of recruiters before the standard cycle.
Tip #2: Network genuinely, not transactionally. Ask consultants about their real experience, not just how to get hired. People remember candidates who are curious and specific.
Tip #3: Use the program to evaluate Bain, not just to impress it. These events exist so you can decide if consulting fits you. Honest questions make you look more serious, not less.
Tip #4: Do not rely on the program to carry your interview. Acceptance gets you a foot in the door, but you still pass the same case and behavioral interviews as everyone else.
Tip #5: Connect with the Women at Bain network early. The relationships you build during a program can support you through recruiting and well into your career.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Women at Bain network only for women?
No. The Women at Bain network welcomes women and non-binary individuals, and it partners with other affinity groups across the firm. Its events are focused on women's experiences but build connections firm-wide.
Do you have to be a woman to apply to CREW?
Yes. CREW is designed for women in their sophomore year at a US or Canadian four-year institution. Bain encourages eligible women from any field of study to apply.
Does joining a women's program guarantee a Bain job?
No. The programs give early access, mentorship, and interview opportunities, but you still pass the standard case and behavioral interviews. They open the door rather than guarantee an offer.
What percentage of Bain consultants are women?
Bain does not publish an exact figure. The firm has doubled the number of women on its leadership team in four years and regularly ranks among the top employers for women.
Is the Lead to Inspire Masterclass virtual?
Yes. It is a virtual program for women in Europe and the Middle East that includes mentorship, training, and interview prep. Standout participants are invited to interview for a consulting role.
When do Bain's women's programs open?
Timing varies by program and region, but CREW applications usually open in mid-October and close in early December. Always check Bain's careers site for current dates.
How competitive are Bain's women's programs?
Very competitive. Bain reports that only about 2 to 3% of target-school applicants receive internship offers, so early programs give you a real edge in the process.
